Mother Nature's icy blast brought snowfall to the Bay Area Tuesday, with 1.5 inches of snow covering the ground on Mount Hamilton east of San Jose, according to National Weather Service forecaster Diana Henderson. With an elevation of 4,200 feet, Mount Hamilton was the only snowy peak in the Bay Area this morning. But Henderson said snowfall was possible on Mount Diablo in Contra Costa County, which reaches 3,800 feet, and Tamalpais in Marin County, which rises 2,600 feet. "The tops of mountains are pretty much fair game," she said. The snow had closed the main road on Mount Hamilton as well. Just after 10 a.m., authorities closed state Route 130 in both directions from Quimby Road to the Alameda County line, the California Highway Patrol reported.
