New U.S. women's league called the National Women's Soccer League

The new women's league in the United States, set to begin in Spring 2013, will be called the National Women's Soccer League. 

The announcement of the league name and logo -- which came at halftime of the U.S. women's 4-1 friendly win over China -- gives a firmer identity to the eight-team league. Previous incarnations of women's professional soccer in the United States came in the form of the Women's United Soccer Association (2001-2003) and Women's Professional Soccer (2009-2012). 

Former U.S. women's national team general manager Cheryl Bailey is the executive director of the NWSL. 

"We are working on finalizing a number of league items, but we now have a name and a logo that we think the fans will identify with and enjoy," said Bailey. "This is a league we have to build from the bottom up and we have a group of dedicated owners and talented support staff at U.S. Soccer to keep this process moving in a positive direction while slowly growing the brand."

Thus far the new league has eight teams: Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, FC Kansas City, Portland Thorns FC, Sky Blue FC, Washington Spirit, Western New York Flash and Seattle, which has yet to announce a name. 

U.S. Soccer will subsidize the salaries of 24 U.S. national team players. The Canadian Soccer Association and the Federation of Mexican Football will each do the same for up to 16 members of their respective national teams.

BOCA RATON, Fla. (Dec. 15, 2012) – The U.S. Women’s National Team defeated China PR 4-1 in front of 10,493 fans at Florida Atlantic University Stadium to cap off the 10-game 2012 Fan Tribute Tour, presented by Panasonic.

Abby Wambach scored her 151st and 152nd career goals, Megan Rapinoe tallied an unassisted game-winner from 40 yards out and Sydney Leroux scored her record 14th goal off the bench as the 2012 London Olympic gold medalists finished the year with a 28-1-3 record.

U.S. defender and team captain Christie Rampone earned her 276th career cap on the night to move into sole possession of second place all-time, moving ahead of Mia Hamm (275 caps from 1987-2004) and behind only Kristine Lilly who had 352 caps from 1987-2010.

The match marked the final game for U.S. interim head coach Jill Ellis, who compiled a 5-0-2 record in the final seven games of the Fan Tribute Tour. New head coach Tom Sermanni officially begins his tenure on Jan. 1, 2013. The U.S. WNT will take a much-deserved break over the holiday season and start its 2013 schedule on Feb. 9 against Scotland in Jacksonville, Fla.

Oh Joy AT&T U-verse Price Changes

 beginning with bills received on January 27, 2013, the monthly price of some U-verse TV and Internet packages are increasing, which may impact the cost of your services. These changes reflect increased business costs, including costs associated with higher programming fees.

The monthly price for the following U-verse TV service plans will increase $2: U-family to $59; U200 to $74; U200 Latino to $84; U300 to $89; U300 Latino to $99; U450 to $121; and U450 Latino to $131. (Grandfathered plans also will increase $2: U100 to $61 or $66, depending on when first ordered; and U400 to $116.) Beginning on February 1 there will be a separate Broadcast TV Surcharge of up to $1.99 per month to recover a portion of the amount local broadcasters charge AT&T to carry their channels.

For High Speed Internet customers effective as of the January 27, 2013 billing statements, the monthly price for Basic will increase to $28, Express will increase to $36, Pro will increase to $41, Elite will increase to $46, Max will increase to $51, Max Plus to $56, and Max Turbo to $66. If you are not currently paying a monthly high speed Internet equipment fee for the Wi-Fi-enabled Residential Gateway, a $2 monthly fee will begin with the January 27 billing statements.

The monthly rate for the Home Wiring Protection Plan will be $6.00.
