Back when they were recording their 2005 LP, Waiting for the Sirens' Call, post-punk torchbearers New Order ended up with a handful of extra songs. . The unused tracks from the sessions were written and recorded before the departure of original bassist Peter Hook and appear completely intact.
Like Waiting for the Sirens' Call, Lost Sirens features Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris and Phil Cunningham. The album was recorded at Real World studios in 2003-2004; the production costs totalled ₤700,000. The songs featured on Lost Sirens were originally intended for release shortly after the release of Waiting for the Sirens' Call but the band broke up in 2007. Lost Sirens was released following the reunion of the band in 2012 without bassist Peter Hook. "Hellbent" was previously released in 2011 as part of compilation album, Total: From Joy Division to New Order.
