OAKLAND -- Even as BART resumed service for the Friday afternoon commute -- launching trains for the first time in nearly five days -- its unions threatened to pick up their picketing signs and once again shut down the rail line a month from now.
Management and unions, urged on by Gov. Jerry Brown's labor secretary, reached a late-night deal Thursday to send workers back to the job for the next 30 days by having employees work under the contract that expired nearly a week ago. On Friday, workers reported to stations to help get trains back running at 3 p.m., much to the delight of riders
