SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The only history being made at Levi’s Stadium on Saturday night was San Jose Earthquakes attacker Yannick Djaló delivering the first score in the new arena’s debut event.

Seattle Sounders coach Sigi Schmid will have to wait another week to try for his own milestone after Djaló’s 42nd minute strike delivered a 1-0 victory for the Quakes in front of 48,765 fans.

San Jose (6-8-5) extended their unbeaten streak to a season-best three games with their second win on the run, moving them into a tie for eighth place in the Western Conference with Chivas USA, pending the Rojiblancos’ game against FC Dallas on Sunday.

Seattle (12-6-2) suffered their first losing streak of the season with a second straight defeat. Schmid, MLS’ leader in coaching victories, can try for his 200th again next weekend against Houston.

United States capture Gold Cup with 1-0 win over Panama

Just 42 seconds after coming into the game as a substitute Sunday, Shea pounced after Landon Donovan whiffed a shot and poked the ball into the net. His goal in the 69th minute gave the United States a 1-0 victory over Panama and the CONCACAF Gold Cup title. It is the fifth Gold Cup title for the Americans, but their first since 2007. It also is the first international title as a coach for Jurgen Klinsmann, who won the 1990 World Cup and 1996 European Championship with Germany.

"It doesn't matter who scored today," Shea said. "We won."

The U.S. is doing a lot of that lately.

This was the 11th straight victory for the Americans, four more than their previous record, and they likely will leapfrog Mexico as the best team from the North and Central America and Caribbean region when the next FIFA rankings come out Aug. 8.

When the final whistle sounded, the Americans on the field began celebrating while the rest of the team raced off the bench. Several players jumped up and down, and hugs and high-fives were exchanged. Klinsmann, who watched the game from a luxury box after being suspended for his tirade over the officiating in the semifinal, quickly made his way down to the field, pumping his fists in the air as he walked.

"They wanted to send out a signal that they are the best group in CONCACAF, and they are," Klinsmann said. "For today."

But their performance in this tournament is likely to stay with the Americans for a while. At least until the next round of World Cup qualifying in September. Not only did they outscore opponents 20-4 in the tournament - no other team had more than 11 goals - but they showed they are deeper than they've ever been, with one young player after another stepping up.

U.S. MNT Advances to 2013 Gold Cup Final with 3-1 Victory Against Honduras

The U.S. Men’s National Team advanced to its ninth CONCACAF Gold Cup Championship game and is shooting for its fifth title following a 3-1 semifinal victory against Honduras at Cowboys Stadium. The U.S. will play at Soldier Field in Chicago at 4 p.m. ET with live coverage on FOX and Univision.

The United States - which has outscored its Gold Cup opponents 19-4 - extended its record winning streak to 10 games as it awaits the winner of Panama-Mexico in next Sunday's final at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Eddie Johnson scored the opener for the USA and Donovan twice provided the Stars and Stripes a two-goal lead against Honduras, which gave the host nation a scare early in the second half when Nery Medina scored on a header off a set piece.

The USA previously won the tournament in 1991, 2002, 2005 and 2007. With four runner-up finishes, the U.S. has now reached the championship game in nine of the 12 editions of the Gold Cup. Only three countries have won the tournament, with Mexico leading the way with six championships and Canada earning the 2000 title.

US Men's Team Advances to Semifinals with 5-1 Win

The United States never let up in an emphatic 5-1 win over El Salvador in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinals at Baltimore's M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday. The US took the lead in front of a sellout crowd in the 21st minute when Clarence Goodson scored. Joe Corona made it 2-0 in the 29th, but El Salvador converted a penalty ten minutes later to send the game into the half 2-1 USA. 14 seconds after subbing on, Eddie Johnson made it 3-1 United States with a 61st minute goal. Landon Donovan added another in the 78th and Mix Diskerud added a fifth goal in the 84th minute. Donovan assisted on three goals.

Chris Wondolowski scored a first-half hat trick in the Americans' 6-1 win

The striker scored a first-half hat trick in a 6-1 victory for the U.S. men's national team over Belize in the opening round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup on Tuesday night.

Landon Donovan added a goal and two assists, becoming the first player with at least 50 career goals and 50 assists for the national team.

Wondolowski, who plays for Major League Soccer's San Jose Earthquakes, sported an extra "W'' on the back of his red and white jersey for the first international meeting between the two teams.

Costa Rica defeated Cuba 3-0 in an earlier match Tuesday at Jeld-Wen Field. The 12-team Gold Cup, which includes national teams from North and Central America and the Caribbean, is played every two years.

Wondolowski is the third American to score three goals in a Gold Cup match, joining Donovan and Brian McBride. The United States has won four Gold Cups since the tournament's inception in 1991. Mexico has won the past two.

The U.S. men were coming off a 6-0 rout of Guatemala in San Diego on Friday, an international friendly to warm up for the Gold Cup. Donovan scored twice, extending his American record to 51 international goals.

United last Saturday, the San Jose Earthquakes return to Buck Shaw Stadium to face the Houston Dynamo on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. PT.
